B.C. Police Association Supports Federal anti-drug youth initiatives

Vancouver, December 15, 2009 - The British Columbia Police Association, (BCPA), is "very supportive" of the youth component of Canada's national anti-drug strategy unveiled today says BCPA President, Tom Stamatakis.

Federal health minister, Leona Aglukkaq, says the campaign is targeted at young people between the ages of 13 and 15, the age group who are the most likely to try illegal drugs for the first time. .

"We applaud the federal anti-drug strategy, and agree that it is vital to get our children to turn their backs on drugs," says Stamatakis, "and we agree that a campaign that will help them make the right choices and learn how to refuse to get drawn into the world of drug addiction is much needed," he adds. .

The federal campaign will include transit and shopping mall ads, and an interactive website, www.not4me.ca.

The 2,500-member British Columbia Police Association (BCPA) is made up the members of the province's 11 municipal police services as well as members of the South Coast BC Transit Association Police Services. .
